John Dolan

John Dolan

Chair of Trustees

John came to Birmingham over 30 year ago to join Birmingham’s library and archives services. Working all across the city he came to know most of the city’s communities. Through libraries, reading and information services he worked closely with adult education, youth services, reading and the arts, early learning and schools. He brings a lot of experience of community services that serve people’s expectations and aspirations. John has been a trustee of the Hub in all its manifestations since it was a derelict office, from Bournville Hub through lockdown to bookshop. He is now Chair of Trustees of The Hub on the Green. John is also an active member of the Bournville group of Amnesty International.

As a trustee from the early days of Bournville Hub, I have seen it through so many changes moving to its new life today as the Hub on the Green. I hope the Hub on the Green will bring a breeze of fresh air to Bournville. It’s said you can solve all the world’s problems if you go for one village at a time. Let’s make a start in the heart of Bournville.

My involvement with Bournville Hub CIO began in 2016 when I occasionally used an office in the Hub to offer a family law mediation service. In addition, a little later, I offered free advice on family law matters to anyone who dropped in and asked for it (I am a retired family lawyer and have lived in Bournville for 37 years). This service necessarily ended with Covid, which also coincided with Bournville Hub registering as a charity. I have been a trustee since this time, initially concerned with reorientating the work and survival of the Hub over those challenging times and, later, enthusiastically involved in the recent relaunch of the Hub on the Green, from the initial planning and rebranding to the appointment of our talented, enthusiastic managers and welcoming visitors back to the building. I look forward to supporting the Hub in its exciting relaunch.

Great news for Bournville! The new Hub on the Green is up and running and serving the whole Bournville community … do come and get involved

I have been a Bournville resident for over 30 years and as I reach retirement I feel it is time to give something back to Bournville, a wonderful place to live. I feel the Hub is a great community facility in the making and am excited to be part of its growth. I have a host of business skills to support the Hub especially in the financial area and the time to put them to good use supporting the team who are making the Hub tick.

We are crying out for a facility in our area to inform, support and bring the community together. The Green is such a vibrant and exciting centre and the Hub and its enthusiastic team can offer all sorts of events to young and old making it an even more wonderful place to live. We look forward to seeing you all in the Hub and please share all your ideas so we can make the Hub the community facility you all want.
